JFN joins joint venture awarded multi-million pound services framework to support Dounreay decommissioning programme
A joint venture group, including James Fisher Nuclear (JFN), is set to support a multi-million pound services framework for Dounreay Site Restoration Ltd (DSRL) that will help accelerate Scotland’s largest decommissioning project on the north Caithness coast, as part of a wider mission to clean up the UK’s nuclear legacy.
Nuclear Decommissioning Ltd. (NDL) brings together four leading nuclear decommissioning businesses –JFN, Shepley Engineers, REACT Engineering and WYG –appointed to help ensure the safe clean-up and demolition of Dounreay, an experimental nuclear power site, delivered by DSRL on behalf of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA).

Having already worked collaboratively together for many years successfully delivering decommissioning works, all the companies in NDL are committed to investing in local skills and having a long-lasting impact on the local economy. Between them, they will contribute a wide range of services to ensure site safety, including architecture, civil and structural engineering, design, and project management.
Previously the UK’s centre for fast reactor research, and one of only two fast reactors ever built in the UK, Dounreay is widely recognised as one of Europe’s most complex nuclear closure programmes.
NDL will initially support the remediation of Dounreay on a four-year framework, expected to commence in the summer this year, with the option to extend by up to an additional three years.
