3D Modelling and Data Handling

A 3D CAD model can be built up from pre-existing drawings and/or LASER scanner data. Once the model has been built, the in-built tools allow the model to be zoomed, rotated and manipulated at will. The model can be used to investigate differences between the original drawings and the current status or to construct a CAD representation of a plant where no drawings exist. In complex structures, the various elements of the plant can be resolved and, for example, pipework traced.

Raw inspection data can be post processed and converted into a 3D model to enhance the usability of the information in evaluation, decision making and planning. Data can be added as overlays which benefit from the same manipulation tools as the basic 3D model giving valuable insight. As well as acting as a visualisation aid, models can deliver valuable quantitative information.

LASER Dimensioning
Once the 3D model has been acquired, specific points can be marked. This allows accurate dimensions to be taken of large objects which would not be possible by an individual.

LASER Collision
Scans of the same object can be compared using in-house written software to compare the dimensions of the scan images. The program then highlights the areas that do not conform to each other, clearly showing product deformation over time. This is essential for vessels that store hazardous materials as the user needs to be aware of how rapidly the container is deforming allowing them to predict when the container will fail.

Presentations
Scan point can be exported to a third party program for further processing. The 3D model is then incorporated in movies and rendered images allowing the user to generate material usable in presentations and meetings that can be easily explained to personnel with less technical skill.

SONAR Profiler
The 3D image that is generated from the data collected by the SONAR profiler is initially used for volumetric analysis of materials under the liquor.

For example, an unknown quantity of radioactive sludge is located in a vessel/pond, once the volume of the radioactive sludge has been determined using the SONAR profiler, existing data on the sludge's properties can be used to formulate strategies for disposal and safety can be put into place.
