Plant and Waste Characterisation

JFN provides plant and waste characterisation services to industrial clients operating in challenging environments. This service combines a wide range of conventional and innovative inspection techniques with JFN's extensive capability in designing, manufacturing and commissioning robust and reliable remote handling and manipulator systems to deliver an improved understanding of the plant conditions. JFN has a significant capability in the deployment of Remote Operating Vehicles (ROVs) for accessing underwater locations to deploy inspection technology. These services give plant owners characterisation information to improve the operation, maintenance or dismantling of operational or shut-down nuclear and industrial plants.

Surveys can include camera and radiation surveys for a visual inspection, thermal imaging surveys and radiation surveys. LASER scanning can be deployed to determine the precise spatial location of items. SONAR scanning can be deployed for assessing underwater profiles and the depth of sludges, Rheology surveys assess the behaviour of sludges. As well as a conventional and advanced NDT, for the assessment of plant structures, JFN has developed a range of innovative range of non-destructive testing systemss which can be deployed remotely.

Data from laser scans and historical plant drawings can be converted by JFN designers into interactive 3D models. As well as providing as-built records of facilities, the 3D models can be used as a framework for visualising other characterisation data. Sonar and other imagery can be integrated and presented as a layered model of the plant or vessel to aid the diagnosis of complex processes and problems.
